About The Dhurrie Club ... My background is in retail clothing having owned and run a number of women's clothes shops in Somerset. I have always been interested in hand crafted products particularly for the home, so this business is a natural progression.
This Classic Dhurrie range is unique and environmentally friendly. All the excess yarn (primarily cotton) left over from making other rugs is separated to be re-dyed and then re-spun on a traditional spinning wheel ready to be used again. This new yarn is then woven on a traditional hand loom to create a flat woven rug available in over 20 gorgeous colours. Each one is unique - some flecked with multi coloured yarn (particularly noticeable in the Dark Denim and Light Burgundy rugs) whilst others have mainly darker and lighter hues of the same colour. They are also fully machine washable at 30C and colourfast and hardwearing, so will keep their colour and give you years of service. Depending on the recycled yarn used will determine the overall feel of the dhurrie for example some will feel softer or heavier than others.
They have been produced for over 3 generations by the same family run business based in Northern India. NO child labour has been used in the manufacturing process and ALL workers are paid the locally approved rate of pay for their skills. We will be adding new products from time to time, so do please visit the website regularly. Most styles are ordered on a regular basis please feel free to email me about an item which is "sold out" then I can advise on forthcoming availability.
